Located adjacent to Teluk Bahang and Tanjung Bungah, Batu Ferringhi is popular with the tourists. This long stretch offers plenty of beach activities, world-class resorts and hotels, pasar malam (night market), bars and eateries abound!


Batu Ferringhi is lined with many interesting stalls, of which you will discover quaint souvenirs and a treasure trove of exotic knick knacks in a bustling carnival-like atmosphere. All kind of items are easily to be found in the open-air market including handmade decorative items, costume jewelleries, clothing, imitation branded goods and scenic paintings of Penang.
From street food to more intimate restaurants on beachfront and fine dining in the luxury hotels, you are for sure to enjoy delectable meals in great atmosphere. For the taste of classical local dishes, the hawker centres are the best place to head to. Tuck into Penang most iconic dishes such char koay teow, laksa, satay and wan tan mee for a satisfying meal. Do take note that the prices for food and drink are slightly higher than other regular hawker centres in town, but the tastes of food will never fail to please your taste buds.
Batu Ferringhi has plenty of watering holes; one of the rising stars with magnificent scene is Bora Bora by Sunset. The beachside restobar offers a good selection of drinks at low prices, which is great for a boozy night. Known as “Swatow-kay” or Swatow Street among the Penangites, Kimberley Street (Lebuh Kimberley in Malay) is definitely one of all foodies’ favourite food destinations in George Town. It runs from Penang Road to Carnarvon Street in the heart of the city, clustered with streetside hawker stalls which started near the intersection with Rope Walk (Jalan Pintal Tali). Most of the stalls in the street are operated by second- or third-generation hawkers, and had been there since World War II. Kimberley Street was named after John Wodehouse, the Earl of Kimberley, who was the British colonial secretary in the 1870s.
