Residing as a coastal road on the East of Georgetown and named after Sir Frederick Weld, Weld Quay, also known as Pengkalan Weld, was built between 1883-1889 soon after the land reclamation that took place on the Eastern Shore. Once Weld Quay had been completed in the late 19th century, the neighbourhood had turned into a Chinese Trades Neighbourhood which compiles of warehouses and wholesalers.
When in Weld Quay, one must not miss the chance to visit one of the six waterfront settlements, otherwise known as the clan jetties which comprise of wooden houses on silts. Chew Jetty is the most well-known amongst the clan jetties, well-liked for the ‘culture warp’ feeling when walking towards the sea.
Travellers who would like to stay in a hotel within this UNESCO heritage site can stay at the Royale Bintang Penang, which is within walking distance and provides easy access to all of the famous heritage sites.
For the photo-taking enthusiasts, there are two 3D trick art museums in Weld Quay, Penang Amazing World Studios and Made in Penang Interactive Museum with majority of the art featured being inspired by Penang and Malaysian culture.
If you’re craving for more of an Asian style cuisine, Hai Nan Town, located by the sea provides a variety of Nyonya and Hainanese dishes to indulge. Take a stroll by the roadside of Weld Quay to find a popular Malaysian dish, assam laksa or some O Kio for dessert in front of All Season Car Care Centre.
Penang Island Ferry Terminal provides transportation on a regular basis to both vehicles and commuters that are journeying to the mainland. A ferry service to Langkawi is also available at Langkawi Ferry Services if you fancy a trip to one of Malaysia’s beautiful islands. Along Weld Quay, Swettenham Pier is an international cruise terminal that has been visited by grand cruise ships from all over the world and is only a short distance away from the iconic Victoria Memorial Clocktower.

Made up of several lanes boxed in by Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, Lebuh Gereja (Church Street), Lebuh Pantai (Beach Street) and Lebuh Chulia (Chulia Street), Little India is a mesmerizing maze of wonders. Back in colonial times, Lebuh Chulia was allotted to the Indian migrant settlers who took up a variety of professions as agricultural labourers, textile merchants, money-lenders, jewellers and spice traders. Despite being around for generations, this pre-war cocoon of culture only received its ethnic distinction some years back as recognition for its value as living history. A day will not be sufficient to cover the plethora of shops, restaurants, sights and sounds. Not to mention all the delicious aromas from the variety of Indian cuisines available here from the common mamak to the more exclusive...

Sunrise & Sunset Beaches of Penang

Penang beaches are divided into two large pools of secluded beaches without amenities and popular easy-to-access beaches that provide all the fun activities. Dotted along Batu Ferringhi’s coasts and within minutes walk from the beachfront resorts and holiday apartments are Tanjung Bungah and Batu Ferringhi that draw a steady crowd of tourists and locals throughout the year. With downtown Georgetown just 30-minute drive away, these locales are situated along the northern coastline of Penang. Here, you can choose between an iced-cold cocktail or activities such as parasailing, jet skiing, and windsurfing. For those who love a hike, it is all worthwhile to check out some of the beaches located within the circumference of Penang National Park. Monkey Beach, Pantai Kerachut and Teluk Kampi may well be some of the quietest beaches on the island. While Pantai Kerachut boasts as the most remote beach on the island, it also serves as a nesting ground for green turtles, hawksbill tur...
