Get your stomach ready on June and July, as you will be filled with the pungent aroma of durians everywhere along the streets in Penang. For durian connoisseurs, the Durian Festival is the best season for you to enjoy your favourite durians to the fullest in various farms and stalls around the city including Balik Pulau, Teluk Bahang, Bayan Lepas, Lorong Susu, Jalan Macalister and Teluk Kumbar.
Mao Shan Wang (a.k.a Raja Kunyit / Musang King)
Considered the best of all durian types, the flesh is firm on the outside whilst creamy on the inside. This durian emits a strong pungent odour, is the king of kings that durian connoisseurs always crave.
Golden Phoenix (a.k.a Jin Feng)
If you love bitter bite, Golden Phoenix is the superstar. It has small seed size with a decent amount of flesh. This durian is thick and slightly fibrous; it tastes creamy and slightly less pungent than Mao Shan Wang.
Hor Lor
The flesh tends to be sweet with a little bitterness aftertaste; it is extra creamy and sticky.
XO
As its name implies, it is known for its alcoholic aftertaste. XO tastes bitter with watery flesh and that makes it a sign of great taste.
Ang Hea (a.k.a Red Prawn)
The orange reddish fleshishighly aromatic, has creamy and sweet taste with soft texture.
D24 (a.k.a Durian Sultan)
One of the top famous durians in Penang, it has strong bitter taste before the sweet taste kicks in. The flesh is thick, creamy with rich aroma.
