Christmas comes but once a year and that is a good enough excuse to gorge on the yummy-licious offerings of roasts, puddings, sweets and cakes. Here we list out some of the must-have dishes this festive season. Remember, you can always start eating healthily.. next year.
The Roast

Be it chicken, ham or turkey, there is nothing like a good chunk of meat served with dollops of gravy, roasted carrots, potatoes and stuffing to put you in the Christmas mood (or stupor). This is best eaten for Christmas Eve dinner or after the presents have been unwrapped in the morning so you can squeeze in a quick snooze before visiting hours.
The Pudding

Traditionally served as part of the Christmas dinner, the plum pudding is made about a month ahead using sweet spices, dried fruits and brandy to prevent it from spoiling. It is English custom to include silver coins in the mixture and the person who receives a slice with the money is believed to have good luck for the coming year.
The Beverage
– Made with milk or cream, sugar and whipped eggs, eggnog is more commonly consumed in the US but is becoming popular elsewhere as it’s quite easy to make at home. For extra ooomph add a dash of brandy, bourbon or rum.
– Made with red wine, raisins and sweet spices, mulled wine is enjoyed by the world over as a winter beverage but can be served chilled to suit our climate. Variations include cider, ale and brandy or fruit juices for a non-alcoholic option.
The Sweets

Don’t forget to stock up on chocolates, mince pies, fruit cakes and ginger-bread to stem those hunger pangs between meals. Yes, there’s something about Christmas that makes you hungry ALL the time.
