Yes, you are already on an island. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t venture out to discover the other little islands that surround Penang. Here are a few to complement your holiday.
Pulau Jerejak

This lush island, one of the few remaining rainforests in the country was once known as ‘Malaysia’s Alcatraz’. It is now home to one of Penang’s major tourist attractions thanks to its development which includes the Jerejak Rainforest Resort (which is a pleasant alternative to the hotels in Batu Ferringhi) and various recreational activities. Daily ferry services are available from the Pantai Jerejak terminal at Bayan Lepas.
Pulau Aman

Just off the coast of Tambun, Seberang Prai, this island is home to an idyllic Malay fishing village and is famous for having the oldest breadfruit tree in Malaysia. Go for a homestay experience if you don’t mind spending a night there. Ferry services depart from the jetty at Bukit Tambun, alternatively, you can also hire boats from Batu Maung or Batu Uban.
Pulau Payar

Situated south of Langkawi, Pulau Payar is famous for its ‘Coral Garden’ making it a top destination for diving and snorkeling. It is also home to the Pulau Payar Marine Park which offers protection to the diverse marine life and vegetation. Ferry services are available from Penang or you could book a day-trip package that includes diving and snorkeling.
